5.6 The Delivery Trip – Day 6 – Seattle

30 March 2006

This was the last day of our ferry trip.  Dick woke up early and put Slim Dusty on the iPod – he was suffering withdrawal symptoms.  After a quick cup of tea, we left at 8.30 am.  We emptied our toilet and grey water tank in the special pipes provided at the RV park – that was the reason we were there.  Dick checked the oil and water in the Earthroamer – everything was OK.

At 10.00 am we got going.  We had to be very careful with the bridges on the small country road.  The Earthroamer is 10’ 11” in total height and some of the bridges seem to be only 12’.  The daffodils and peach blossoms were coming out.

At one stage we stopped beside the road to watch a Tacoma train go by – just the engines moving really slowly.  Dick loved it.

We stopped at Spanaway at 11.00 am and I must admit we succumbed to a hot dog at Dairy Queen.  We collected our emails on the computer using the Verizon unit and Dick phoned boat people in Seattle.  We quickly keyed their address into the Garmin.  We drove past the Seattle International Airport right into Stirling Marine at Seattle.  We looked at a few boats just for the fun of it.  It was amazing just where we could park the Earthroamer.

We then headed back, retracing our steps to the south to the boating terminal.  We quickly fixed up the vehicle, jumped into a taxi and went off to the airport.

We’d done 1,747 miles in four and half days, averaging 388 miles per day.  The fuel mileage went from 9.52 miles per gallon in the mountains to 13.03 miles per gallon on the open road.  The average for the full trip was 11.18 miles per gallon.  521 miles was the maximum for one day.
